FOX 35 ORLANDO - A new study from the United Kingdom has some bad news for bacon lovers.
The study was reportedly performed on half a million men and women from the United Kingdom over the course of five years on average. It found that the consumption of red and processed meat was associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer.
The study stated that just one slice of bacon a day was associated with a 19 percent greater risk of colorectal cancer. It also found that a slice of roast beef or lamb a day was associated with an 18 percent greater risk of colorectal cancer.
Fiber intake from foods like bread and breakfast cereals yielded a reduced risk of colorectal cancer, the study stated.
The results from the study suggest that a reduction in meat intake would reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.
