Florida passes cosmetic surgery regulation bill

Florida lawmakers have passed legislation to tighten regulation on the state's cosmetic surgery industry.

The bill was unanimously approved in the House on Wednesday after previously passing in the Senate.

Proposed by Miami-area Sen. Anitere Flores and Rep. Anthony Rodriguez, the legislation would require facilities and doctors to demonstrate financial responsibility to pay out claims when they are deemed at fault for the serious injury or death of a patient. The bill would also permit officials to suspend or place five-year bans on bad actors who fail to comply with the rule changes.

The bill goes next to Gov. Ron DeSantis for approval.
