Firefighter among 3 involved in Orange County fiery head-on collision

Three people, including a firefighter, were taken to the hospital after a head-on collision Wednesday afternoon.

A car collided into a van, and the van caught fire, at Lake Underhill and Dean Roads around 2:47 p.m. in Orange County, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

All lanes of Lake Underhill Road at Dean Road were blocked.

Two people were transported on trauma alert and one patient was transported on Advanced Life Support, according to Orange County Fire Rescue.

Fire Rescue said Special Ops had to be called to extricate one of the people and put out the fire.

The driver of the car faces charges because a spokesperson for FHP said the driver was driving erratically and crossing the center line.

The firefighter had injuries to his hand while rescuing the people trapped in the van, FHP said.
