A driver slammed into cars and dragged a woman across the pavement in the parking lot of a grocery store, according to troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol.

It happened on Monday afternoon at a Bravo Supermarket in Orange City.   Troopers said a man in his 70s was driving a black Lincoln Navigator, when he accidentally put the vehicle in reverse and hit a parked car.

“I came out the store and saw my car in the middle of what would be the driving path and saw that I was pushed out, I looked I had front end damage,”  said Evelyn Gonzalez.

Troopers think the driver panicked and put the car into drive, before hitting four parked cars, some shopping carts, and a woman.  That 52-year-old Deltona woman was then dragged about 10-15 feet.

"It was crazy. I was hoping and praying for her.  She seemed to be responsive when the fire-rescue came. They actually jacked the vehicle up and took her out," Gonzalez said.  “I walked back to the scene where most of the people were at, and I noticed that there was a lady pinned underneath the black SUV.”

The woman was transported to a hospital, where she remains in critical condition. Her name was not immediately released.
