Ceiling caves in on woman and dog
What we know:
Ocala Fire Rescue responded to the 3100 block of SE Eighth Street after receiving a call just before noon on Aug. 22 – finding that a large tree had crashed through the roof of a home, damaging the kitchen, living room and a bedroom.
The resident told FOX 35's Stephanie Buffamonte that she was enjoying time with her dog in her living room when the ceiling came in on them.
There wasn't any lead up, the woman said, describing the rain outside with the absence of thunder. But, then a loud sound alerted the family to everything coming down – beams, insulation and drywall, she said.
Ocala Fire said the tree compromised the residence's structural integrity by breaking through trusses.
The resident hasn’t processed everything fully yet, just now feeling the bruises and scratches, she told Buffamonte. Her first thought was protecting her dog and making sure they weren't harmed.
Ocala Fire Rescue responded to the 3700 block of E. Fort King St. on Aug. 22 after a neighboring tree fell into a resident's fence and roof.
