Deltona student charged for making threat at school

A 14-year-old student at Deltona Middle School is the latest Volusia County student to face a felony charge for making a threatening statement at a school in the wake of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

Volusia County sheriff’s deputies arrested the 14-year-old around 11:41 a.m. on Wednesday at Deltona Middle. The assistant principal had contacted the school resource deputy after the student’s third-period teacher reported the student yelled out a threat about blowing up the school, according to the Sherif's Offfice.

Deputies determined the student did not actually have any intent to blow up the school or cause harm to anyone. He was charged with making a false report of a bomb, a felony.
