Driver killed in fiery I-4 crash in Volusia County, troopers say
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash on Interstate 4 in Volusia County on Monday.
What we know:
Shortly before 3:30 a.m., a driver was traveling eastbound on I-4 approaching the overpass for State Road 44 in DeLand when the car veered off the road, struck an electrical panel before colliding with the corner of the overpass bridge support, troopers said in a news release.
The impact caused the car to become engulfed in flames. The driver died at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
What we don't know:
The identity of the driver was not immediately released. Authorities are expected to receive an update from the medical examiner's office.
Troopers were unable to provide a description of the car due to its condition.
