Deadly crash on Florida's Turnpike
A deadly crash has shut down parts of Florida's Turnpike in Osceola County.
OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. - One person is dead, and another was seriously injured Wednesday after a crash involving three tractor-trailers shut down a portion of Florida’s Turnpike, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
What we know:
The crash happened around 3:15 a.m., Dec. 3 in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike at mile marker 248 near Kissimmee.
The three tractor-trailers were traveling in the outside lane when the driver of a tractor-trailer with a double didn’t notice traffic was slowing ahead of him, according to FHP. The driver crashed into the back of a Volvo tractor-trailer, causing the Volvo to collide into a Freightliner tractor-trailer that was in front of it, an FHP report said.
The tractor-trailer that failed to slow down for traffic caught fire, according to FHP.
The crash shut down all southbound lanes of the Turnpike for several hours.
Injuries, fatalities from the crash
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Volvo tractor-trailer, a 38-year-old man from Orlando, was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, FHP said.
The driver of the other tractor-trailer involved in the crash, a 55-year-old man from Hollywood, Florida, was not injured.
What we don't know:
The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
The identities of the drivers have not been released.
