Dad charged with DUI, child neglect after passing out in car with kids in back seat

Police in Leesburg, Florida say they found a man slumped over in his car right by a gas station pump.

According to investigators, 29 year old Patrick Williams was intoxicated and did not realize he had his two small children in the back seat of the car.

"I knew something was not right. The kids was scared, they didn't know what was going on. They said their daddy's sleeping," said gas station owner Manirul Islam. "It was by the gas pump, and the car was running and it could cause the car to catch on fire."

Islam called the police who said that, when they arrived, they could not wake Williams and had reason to believe he had been drinking alcohol.

Islam said two small boys, around 4 to 5 years old, were in the back seat.  Police said Williams told them he thought he had dropped the children off at his home.

"I hope they're ok, and nobody should do that," Islam said.

Police say when they asked for identification, Williams gave them his debit card instead of a driver's license.

Islam, who is from Bangladesh, said it was important for him to do the right thing and make sure this father was put behind bars.

"I'm Muslim.  I want to do something for this country.  All Muslim are not bad. I called out of responsibility. I love this country," he said.

Williams is charged with DUI and child neglect.
