Officials in The Villages say a monster sinkhole in a neighborhood there hasn't gotten any bigger. They're working over the next couple of days to fill it in.

“It's a mess,” said Mary Ann Mowers, who lives near the sinkhole, “it's been a mess since Valentine's Day. Nice to see some work being done on it finally, though!”

The sinkhole had been growing at the intersection of McAlpin Street and McLawren Terrace. Two houses there were condemned. Neighbor Sue Walters said it's been alarming watching it grow.

“The hole, itself, has been getting wider before they started digging,” she said.

It's the biggest of four sinkholes in the area. Officials say they repaired a damaged sewer line down inside, and plan to fill it over the next two days, if the weather cooperates.

“We're happy to see that they're out here doing something positive,” Walters said.

Once its filled-in, officials say they'll do more geologic tests before they'll be able to repave the intersection.
