A permanent fixture honoring two fallen officers in Kissimmee is now up.

The Kissimmee Police Department, along with the Kissimmee Utility Authority, unveiled a 'thin blue line' street light in memory of Sergeant Sam Howard and Officer Matthew Baxter, who were gunned down in the line of duty while checking on a suspicious group of people. The light was installed in the same location where the two lost their lives one year ago.

In the meantime, the community came out on Saturday to celebrate their memory. Hundreds turned out in Kissimmee.

The Kissimmee Police Chief says that the celebrations are also to thank the community for coming together in the department's time of need.

Everett Miller is accused of shooting the two officers. He is in jail awaiting trial and could face the death penalty.
