Crews with the Orange County Fire Department on Monday responded to calls that a child had fallen into a Maitland canal.

Deputies and fire officials arrived at Riverside Acres Park, just off of Forest City Road, shortly before 4 p.m., where they spoke with the mother of a boy who was concerned that her son had disappeared in the water.

Dive teams searched the canal for a little more than an hour, when it was learned that the boy was at his school and safe from harm.  The site was cleared by rescue teams just after 5 p.m.
