ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - Floridians know, dolphins can be playful creatures. As a canoeist found out, some dolphins can be more playful than others.
Michael McCarthy was in his See Through Canoe near Fort Desoto, watching three dolphins feeding and playing in the water. As they weaved around one another, one of the dolphin flipped its fin and up came a fish.
Michael, who routinely sees wildlife while on his canoe, was ready to capture the moment. He had two cameras rolling and caught the toss from two angles.
The fish, which Michael said was a mullet, flew 30 feet into the air and almost into the front of his boat.
Michael noted, dolphin often toss mullet with their back fins. He said he's seen a lot of mullet get tossed, but never had one seem to be tossed right to him.
In slow-motion, another fish can be seen rising above the water at the same time. Maybe the dolphin is working on a mullet juggling routine.
