Boat grounded near Jetty Park in Brevard Co.

Officials say a boat grounded off the beach at Jetty Park in Brevard County early Sunday morning. It remained there Sunday night.

The owner says he was trying to take the boat from Florida to New York when things went wrong.

“I woke up and felt the bottom,” Michael McLean said. “We tried to get out on high tide. That didn’t work. Since then, we got pounded with waves.”

Mclean says another man, Chris Kenworthy, had come on board to help him make the trip right before the accident.

“We got out here. The waves was pretty hard and heavy. The tide was pretty wicked,” Kenworthy said.

He says they tried to anchor about 600 yards off shore, but the anchor slipped.

After hitting ground, the men say they tried to get a tow, but they couldn’t afford the charge.

Sunday, the U.S. Coast Guard, FWC and the Brevard County Sheriff's Office responded.

Officials say the boat isn’t leaking any diesel right now, but there are hundreds of gallons on board, so they plan to remove the fuel before pulling it off the beach.
