Apartment fire leaves dozens homeless

Nearly three dozen people are left homeless Wednesday morning after a fire ripped through an Orange County apartment complex on Tuesday night.

A fire broke out at the Hibiscus Place Apartments off of Silver Star Road around 8 p.m. on Tuesday. When fire crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the second floor. Crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly.

Everyone was able to evacuate. Some of the lower floor apartments also evacuated, as there were some damage there as well. However, there were no reported injuries.

The Battalion Chief on scene said that "The apartment was evacuated. The first and second floor. We do have a state fire marshal responding to determine the cause of the fire."

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire. There is no word yet, but with the state fire marshal expected, the case should be determined in the next week.

Two apartments were affected by flames, while four others were affected by smoke.
