Altamonte Springs Police search for home invasion suspect

Authorities are seeking the public’s help to identify a man in a sketch.

The Altamonte Springs Police Department said a couple was terrorized inside their Lakeshore Apartment on May 8. The victims told police a man approached them around 12:30 a.m. and held them at gunpoint.

“He ordered them to go into their house and then told them to get on the ground. At that point, he tied both victim’s hands behind their backs and then ended up taking some keys and a cell phone,” said Evelyn Estevez with the Altamonte Springs police department.

Police said the man then took off and the couple was able to work their way out of the restraints and call police. Now, Estevez said the department needs your help identify him.

“We obviously look at this type of incident as a violent crime, ya know? He had a gun. He threatened them with that gun, so we’re seeking the public’s help.”

The victims described the man to police as a black male, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with a very dark complexion, black hair and a buzz cut.  There’s also one unique identifier that cops are hoping will crack the case.

“They said that the male had an island accent. Hopefully, they can come forward and say, ‘Hey, this is somebody who fits that description and has that island accent,’ and that way we can identify who the suspect is.”
