8-year-old girl falls from third floor of Orlando hotel
ORLANDO, Fla. (FOX 35 ORLANDO) - A young child received minor injuries after falling from the third floor of an Orlando hotel.
Orange County Fire Rescue says that an 8-year-old girl fell out off the third floor of an Extended Stay Hotel. The hotel is located on Palm Parkway in Orlando.
Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said units arrived to discover that the girl had suffered a leg injury. She had been taken back to her hotel room and was conscious, alert and talking. Because of the distance of the fall, she was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital out of an abundance of caution.
"Any fall from height greater than ten feet is something we take very seriously," he explained. "She only had a knee injury that was minor; however, she may have had some internal injuries that we were not aware of."
Jachles said the hotel window did not appear to be broken, but the Orange County Sheriff's Office is investigating to determine exactly how the girl got through the opening.
"We're very fortunate this child was not seriously injured, because of the height of the fall," said Orange County Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles. "She fell apparently into some trees, or bushes or grass."
The girl and her family are visiting from the United Kingdom, Jachles said.
"She was actually very upset she was going to the hospital and not the Magic Kingdom," he added.
