The crash happened around 6 p.m. on Reams Road near Legado Drive. 

What we know:

Troopers said the child – identified as Lucca Silva – walked into the path of a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe that was traveling south along Reems Road, near an area behind Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Lucca was alone when the crash occurred, FHP said. 

The driver, a 21-year-old woman, was unable to avoid the boy, and the front of the SUV hit the child, an FHP report said. Troopers said the driver stayed at the scene.

The child was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, where he remained in critical condition. 

 Investigators have not said why the boy was walking along the roadway, and the crash remains under investigation.

What we don't know:

The extent of the boy's injuries were not immediately released.
