5 ways to help victims of the Paris attacks
As the world continues to mourn for Paris, you might be wondering if there is anything tangible you can do to help the victims, survivors and others affected by the deadliest day on French soil since World War II.
Many organizations, individuals and charities have already begun the process of gathering funds, volunteers and supplies to help the city recover and rebuild. Here are five ways you can support Paris in this time of need:
1. Donate to The Red Cross
Although you can't currently donate directly to the French branch of The Red Cross, you can make an online donation to the International Federation of Red Cross, which includes a French chapter. So far, The Red Cross has mobilized 300 volunteers to help those impacted.
2. Open your door
Social media users have been using the hashtag #PorteOuverte, which means open door, to indicate their willingness to shelter victims of the massacres. If you live near an airport, you can use the hashtag to let French nationals stranded due to canceled flights know that your door is open. You can also include the hashtag #strandedinUS.
3. Research local French organizations
Soeurs Catholique and Secours Populaire Francais are just two French disaster-relief organizations that you can donate to.
4. Help feed victims displaced by the attacks
Les Restaurants du Coeur is a French organization that helps feed those in need.
5. Support French citizens in the area
Visit the French Embassy in Washington, where a memorial is growing to pay tribute to the victims, or attend a local vigil or prayer service. Reach out to those you know with family and friends in the city and offer your support.
