3 dead, 1 injured in two-vehicle crash on N. Hiawassee Road

A two-vehicle crash on Hiawassee Road left three people dead and one injured on Thursday evening.

FHP is lead agency investigating deadly crash

What we know:

Around 6:15 p.m., first responders, including the Orange County Sheriff's Office, Florida Highway Patrol, and Orange County Fire Rescue, arrived at the scene along Hiawassee Road, near Hiawassee Meadows Dr. They found one vehicle on its roof and another with extensive damage.

Authorities said a 42-year-old Kissimmee woman was behind the wheel of one of the vehicles. She was rescued and transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The second vehicle involved in the crash had the three fatalities, including the driver and two passengers.

What we don't know:

Neither the identities of the deceased, nor the circumstances which led to the crash were not immediately known.

What's next:

The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the investigation and the identities of the deceased will be released, pending the notification of the next of kin. 

Roadblocks remained in place in both directions on North Hiawassee Road as the investigation continues.
