2 Flagler County deputies hit by vehicle, taken to hospital
Two deputies with the Flagler County Sheriff's Office were hit by a vehicle on Tuesday morning and taken to the hospital, the sheriff's office said.
PALM COAST, Fla. - Two Flagler County sheriff’s deputies were hospitalized Tuesday after their motorcycles were struck by a car, according to Sheriff Rick Staly.
The crash happened on Palm Coast Parkway NE at Clubhouse Drive, directly in front of a fire station, authorities said.
What we know:
The Flagler County Sheriff's Office said both deputies were part of the agency's Motors Unit. Both deputies were taken to Halifax Health Medical Center of Daytona Beach for treatment.
Sheriff Staly said the deputies are expected to recover and were being evaluated for injuries, including back pain, bumps and bruises.
Both deputies have children who were pulled from school and taken to the emergency room after being told their fathers had been hurt, he added.
According to the sheriff, a driver made an illegal left turn from the center lane and collided with the deputies, who were traveling in the left lane.
The driver was cited for an improper turn and is also accused of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia, authorities said.
What we don't know:
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating the crash. FOX 35 has reached out to FHP for more information. The identity of the driver who allegedly struck the deputies was not immediately released.
What they're saying:
Sheriff Staly asked the public for prayers for the deputies as they recover.
"We’re lucky we’re not burying deputies today," he added, blaming an inattentive driver for the crash.
