Fourteen horses have been removed from a Lake County property where authorities previously rescued 85 dogs, according to a horse rescue organization involved in the operation.

DreamCatcher Horse Rescue in Clermont sent trailers to the Groveland property to collect the horses after the owner voluntarily surrendered them.

What we know:

The organization said the woman had become overwhelmed caring for the animals.

Crews safely loaded all 14 horses onto trailers. The animals are now undergoing veterinary examinations, bloodwork and nutritional evaluations.

Lauren Wheatley with DreamCatcher Horse Rescue said most of the horses appeared to be in relatively good condition, though some will require additional care.

"The horses aren't in that bad of shape. We've seen a lot worse," Wheatley said. "There's a couple that, you know, do need some weight and they need rehabilitation. But the person that owned these animals, she did love and care for them, and she just got into a hard place."

The 85 dogs previously removed from the property were taken to the Lake County Animal Shelter. Some have since been transferred to Pet Alliance in Orange County for care.

What we don't know:

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said its investigation remains active as authorities await veterinary assessments of the animals.
