Child dies, 7 others escape house fire

Orange County firefighters said they believe a child died in a house fire Saturday night and several others were injured but were able to escape.

A child is dead and seven others are displaced after a house fire on Roger Babson Road Saturday night, according to Orange County Fire Rescue (OCFR). 

Shortly before 11 p.m., firefighters responded to the 1600 block of Roger Babson Road in response to a structure fire that was 25% involved, according to OCFR. Roughly an hour later, firefighters confirmed that the fire had been put out, and seven residents had been displaced, including four adults and three children. One person – a child –was pronounced deceased, and all others involved sustained no injuries, firefighters said. 

The identity and age of the child killed is unknown at the time, but officials described the victim as an "adolescent." The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

The Red Cross has been requested to assist the victims.
