1 dead, 1 injured in Pine Hills hit-and-run

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run accident in Pine Hills that killed one man and left another seriously injured.

It happened Friday night at the intersection of Pine Hills Road and Indian Hill Road. Investigators were back on the scene Saturday afternoon taking photos.

Florida Highway Patrol says a Ford F-150 was heading north on Pine Hills Road before turning left onto Indian Hill Road and into oncoming traffic. Troopers say the pick-up truck slammed into a Nissan Altima, which had the right of way.

Police say Brandon McCray, 34, who was in the Altima, was killed in the crash and another man in the car was seriously injured.

Investigators say two people in the truck took off running.

“It’s just a terrible situation, there are too many cars,” said Joe, who works in the area. He asked us not to use his last name.

People who live and work in the area say Pine Hills Road is notorious for accidents. Last year, Fox 35 reported on a man who was walking home from church when he was hit and killed near the same intersection.

Several residents told us people completely ignore the 40-mile-per- hour speed limit – driving up to 70 miles per hour.

“It’s very frustrating,” Joe said. “These are people's lives. I don't care about the cars getting beat up and all that, but the people are suffering.”

The people who left the scene are described as Hispanic males. Police say they were both wearing black jackets. One had a blue/teal shirt on and the other was wearing flannel shorts. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
