2025 Lake County murder suspect in custody after federal immigration warrant

Shahidul Islam was released from federal custody to Lake County, as a suspect in the May 2025 murder of his sister-in-law, Monica Islam. Monica's body was found on May 2, 2025. Inside Shahidul's car, the passenger side window of his car was shattered, a bullet was found in the passenger door and blood stains were found, the sheriff's office said. Investigators said the stains resulted in a presumptive match to Monica’s DNA.
