Suspect to change plea in Officer David Jewell’s killing

Eduardo Machado, the man accused of shooting and killing off-duty Edgewood Police Officer David Jewell in September 2025, will be in court on Monday, where he is expected to change his plea. He was charged with first-degree murder in Officer Jewell's death and had previously pleaded not guilty to the charge.  According to online court records, Machado will be in court Monday for a plea hearing and a sentencing hearing. Details on the plea agreement were not revealed in those court documents. The shooting happened inside a Circle K convenience store in Ormond-by-the-Sea on Sept. 15, 2025.
