The Volusia County Sheriff's Office released a complication video from deputies' body cameras from a call in Deltona, where a man fired a dozen shots at deputies, Sheriff Mike Chitwood said. The deputy was shot twice. He fired 6 shots at the suspect. The suspect was arrested and booked into jail on attempted murder charges.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood provides an update on his deputy who was shot Monday night while responding to a call in Deltona. Sheriff Chitwood said the deputy was shot in the chest, which ricochet to his shoulder, and shot in the leg. He is OK and is expected to be discharged soon. Sheriff Chitwood said the deputy joined the agency in 2023 and is one of his agency's "top  guys." He said the suspected shooter fired 12 shots at the deputy, who fired six shots back. The suspect was arrested and booked into jail on 2 counts of attempted first-degree murder. Sheriff Chitwood said the suspect used an A.I. Chatbot recently to ask about Florida Stand Your Ground laws. He also told deputies that he was having a bad day, the sheriff said.
