A man accused of attacking and stabbing an elderly woman in her Orange County home Saturday night was convinced by his brother to turn himself in.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said Douglas Reed attacked and stabbed the woman in her Winter Park home Saturday afternoon, cutting her neck and throat and tried to smother her.

The woman ran screaming out of her house on Crane Strand Drive and got help from a neighbor.

Deputies were able to cordon off the area and Orange County Fire Rescue helped the woman, taking her to a trauma center at a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect, Douglas Reed, lives on the same street a few houses down, according to Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies surrounded the house and made announcements for the suspect to come out and surrender, but received no reply.

The OCSO SWAT team stormed the house on 3084 Crane Strand Drive around 5 p.m. but did not find the Reed.

OCSO said Reed was caught Sunday night when his brother convinced Reed to turn himself in.

Reed is charged with attempted felony murder and robbery with a firearm.
