Man in wheelchair hit and killed trying to cross street in Volusia County, officials say

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. - An 84-year-old man in an electric wheelchair was struck and killed on Old New York Avenue, according to authorities.
Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene around 10:03 p.m. on Saturday.
According to officials, the 2013 Hyundai Genesis was traveling eastbound on Old New York Avenue approaching the intersection of Ridgewood avenue.
"The 84-year-old man was crossing the road in a southerly direction and was not in a marked crosswalk and entered the direct path of the 2013 Hyundai Genesis," said Florida Highway Patrol officials.
According to reports, the driver was not transported, and the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by law enforcement.
