Deputy dragged by car while trying to arrest robbery suspect

The Orange County Sheriff's Office says a deputy was dragged by a car that was trying to get away from a robbery.

It happened at a Tommy Hilfiger store on State Road 535 on Sunday.

The sheriff's office says a deputy arrived at the store to work off duty when a suspect ran out of the store with about $1,600 worth of merchandise.

As the deputy tried to arrest the suspect, officials say the suspect got into a gray Hyundai and the driver put the car in reverse, dragging the deputy.

Investigators say the vehicle hit a parked car and sped forward continuing to drag the deputy, but the deputy managed to let go of the car without getting hurt.

The sheriff's office says the suspect car was abandoned at the intersection of State Road 535 and International Drive with reports of men seen running in a nearby area.

Deputies say a passenger in the car was arrested on an unrelated warrant.

Deputies are still looking for the robbery suspect and the driver of the getaway car.
