CDC says Cyclosporiasis cases now top 17,000

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention received reports of 17,180 confirmed Cyclosporiasis cases in 48 states and Washington, D.C.
Agency officials noted that there are 922 hospitalizations and two deaths connected to cases and approximately 11,844 additional cases might require more investigation.

Reuters reported that Michigan is the most impacted state with more than 14,000 Cyclosporiasis cases. This outbreak has been tied to iceberg lettuce from central Mexico and was recalled by Taylor Farms de Mexico.
Health officials stated that the Cyclospora outbreak included people who reported exposure to processed iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms de Mexico served or bought at various locations, including individuals who reported eating at Taco Bell.

According to the FDA, many of the illnesses occurred before the Taylor Farms de Mexico iceberg lettuce recall on July 17, 2026.

Health officials say people infected with Cyclospora develop diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach cramps/pain, nausea, vomiting, body aches, headache, and fever. But some who are infected with the illness don’t have any symptoms.

Meanwhile, Food and Drug Administration officials initiated an onsite inspection and sampling at Taylor Farms de Mexico in partnership with Mexican officials, according to the recall notice.
