VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. - A suspect was taken into custody after a standoff with SWAT in Volusia County on Sunday, according to officials with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
The incident happened in the area of SR 415 and Howland Boulevard around 7 p.m. and involved a subject who armed himself in a vehicle, according to deputies.
Altamonte Springs police later confirmed 65-year-old John Schmalz-Riedt had been identified as a person of interest after the earlier shooting death of his wife in the area of Conrad Court around 3:15 p.m.
Schmalz-Reidt was later taken into custody by SWAT after about 3 hours of negotiations, officials said.
The incident prompted an area roadblock for hours.
No injuries were reported in the standoff.
Schmalz-Reidt is being charged with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was taken to the Volusia Jail follwong the incident.
