Volusia deputy saves woman from house fire

Bodycam shows the moment a Volusia County deputy rushed into a house fire, where two older people were still inside. VSO said Deputy Royce James kicked down the front door and helped pull a woman out of the home. Firefighters went in and helped pull a man out. That mean was taken to the hospital as a trauma alert, officials said.

A Florida mom is advocating for stricter rules and safety requirements for e-bikes and e-scooters after her 13-year-old son died in a crash. Ashley LaChance, the mother of 13-year-old Colton Remsburg, told FOX 35's Amy Kaufeldt that she wants e-bikes and e-scooters banned for kids 14 and under. If that cannot happen, she believes there needs to be helmet requirements, speed limits, and fines. Colton was on his e-scooter when he was hit by a truck on moss Road in Lake Nona, FHP said.

Florida sheriff on door kick challenge: 'You can get killed'

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said parents need to talk to their kids about the so-called "Door Kick Challenge" on TikTok. He said it's a matter of time until someone chooses the wrong house and the homeowner assumes it's a burglar -- and the homeowner shoots them.  "You can get killed. It's a felony. It's a burglary. This isn't a game...Your breaking into someone's home. They have the right to use deadly force in that case."

Kobat Kitchen: Serving meals and hope to fellow veterans

Chef Richard Bahre, a veteran, stopped by FOX 35's Good Day Orlando to talk about his non-profit, Kobat Kitchen. Launched in January 2026 and part of Nautical Salute, the goal is to help feed homeless vets, create community for other veterans, and to share their stories.  Chef Bahre and his business partners are currently working to build their own smoker, which will allow them to travel and attend other events, he said.
