Daytona Beach police officer shot when confronting man with AK-47

A Daytona Beach police officer is recovering on Monday morning after getting shot during a confrontation with a suspect.

After 11 p.m. on Sunday night, some people in a Daytona Beach neighborhood (located at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and South Street) saw a man waving an AK-47 around. Multiple people called 911 and several officers responded.

Officers reportedly confronted the man upon arrival and he started to shoot at them. One officer ended up being shot in the right arm and is now at Halifax Hospital. He is expected to fully recover and is in good spirits, the Daytona Beach Police Department says.

Police say that the suspect was not hit and he fled the scene, but was arrested a few blocks down. He was later identified as Raymond Roberts.
