ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol say they're searching for the driver that hit and killed a bicyclist Wednesday morning.
A business owner says he went to check the mail, when he discovered a body in a ditch off Colonial Drive.
Troopers say 49-year-old Jorge Arias was hit from behind on his bicycle while heading to work at around 5:30 Wednesday morning, and the driver did not bother to stop.
"He'd wake up at 4 o'clock in the morning, work not far from here," said David Santos, a friend of Arias.
Santos says he was supposed to meet up with his friend and got worried when he didn't' show up.
"I was calling, 20 times a day. Thinking why he not answer me?"
Troopers say parts of the suspect's maroon Honda, including the front grill, were left behind. They say the vehicle will have extensive front end damage.
"Got chills when I think about it," Santos said.
Arias was a handy man and landscaper. Anyone with information about the hit and run is asked to call FHP or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
