DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Daytona Beach Police are investigating after an officer discovered an empty ATM machine ditched near railroad tracks on Monday.
“That’s pretty unbelievable. I didn’t even know those were able to be stolen, let alone opened up if someone did take it,” said Pat Matlock, who lives near where the ATM was found.
Police spokeswoman Lyda Longa says an officer was patrolling near Shady Place when he stumbled across it.
“It was pretty big,” Longa explained. “It was probably about, I would say about 4 ½’ tall, 5’ tall maybe, and another officer assisted him in getting it out of his patrol car.”
So how did it end up near the tracks? Police say the don’t have any reports of stolen ATMs in Daytona Beach.
“Now, were just seeking help. Does anybody know anything about this,” Longa said.
Police say they know the machine is missing parts and all of the money is gone. In a photo posted by the department, it looks like the ATM says “D&D.”
The ATM is now in police evidence.
