Sister of good Samaritan killed in hit-and-run incident speaks

The family of a victim in a deadly hit-and-run incident is mourning.

Troopers say 41-year-old Edward Keene was a good Samaritan who stopped to help a driver change a tire along Interstate 4 in Volusia County Monday morning.

"I'm not surprised at all.  That's my brother; that's how he was in his heart. He would stop for anybody. He would do for anybody," said Ed's sister, Jennifer Keene.  "He didn't deserve this!"

As he helped, investigators said another driver hit him and took off.  Jennifer said her brother was the father of two children and took care of their mother.  She said he deserved to be treated better.

"Accidents happen, but the fact that the guy didn't even stop to see if my brother was alive or not, that's where the tragedy is," said Jennifer.

Deputies later discovered the suspect, 37-year-old Fabian Thomas, at a Deltona RaceTrac.

"There was the guy, trying to change his tire, took the bumper off, took his license plate off. Unfortunately there was blood on the car. I mean, they knew they had the car, they had the driver."

Thomas told investigators the damage was the result of a blowout. Jennifer said there's no excuse for what he did.

"People need to stop and check and call 911 and do what they need to do. Be responsible! If you're gonna get behind the wheel, you have a responsibility to everyone else not just yourself."

Thomas is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
