Police hand out warnings and chocolates for texting and driving

SANFORD, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - The Sanford Police Department say they are trying to get people to stop texting and driving with a sweet message. This is all part of the Kiss Campaign Keep It Safe Sanford. 

According to police, this campaign is an opportunity for law enforcement to educate drivers about the dangers of distractions behind the wheel. Officers will inform the drivers that their violation was texting and driving. And, instead of receiving a ticket, they will receive a  warning and a bag of chocolate kisses. 

FOX 35’s Andrea Jackson says that it would mean a lot to the Sanford Police if you end up taking a picture with the officer who pulled you over and publish it to Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to help them send a strong message about texting and driving. 

The efforts started last Saturday and will be running through Monday the 19th.
