Disney donates $100,000 to local non-profit food bank

- A local non-profit is getting a big boost after a major gift from Disney.

Toy Story heroes Woody and Buzz Lightyear were there, as Disney officials made a surprise presentation to Orlando’s Second Harvest Food Bank. The $100,000 gift was the first of five they'll be making to local non-profits, this week.

Food bank president, Dave Krepcho, said the money will go to their programs for teenagers. Specifically, nutritional education programs and new healthy food markets in local schools.

“The bigger impact is for the community,” Krepcho said, “if we can have a healthier workforce through kids who can concentrate and learn better, they can earn better. So in the long run, it affects the entire community.”

“The work that they do is really outstanding,” said Betty Martinez Lowery, who organizes Disney’s corporate giving efforts, “so for us to invest in them, it's a no-brainer, it's such an easy thing for us to do. The outcomes and return on investment is tremendous for all of central Florida.”

Disney plans to donate a total of $34 million to non-profit groups throughout central Florida this year.
