Boyfriend arrested in child 'torture' case

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Following the arrest of Victoria Toth in the death of her child, authorities are now chargeing Toth's boyfriend, Johnathan Pursglove, with aggravated manslaughter of a child, in connection to the incident.

Authorities are calling this a possible torture case. The Medical Examiner said two-year-old Jayce's injuries had the force of a sucker punch.  The child died from the strike of a closed fist or being kicked in the stomach, investigators say --  trauma so severe, contents from his bowel entered his body.

Police say Jayce would be alive today, had Pursglove not shown reckless disregard for the toddler's safety.  The toddler was found dead in an Orlando home in June, malnourished and covered in bruises.

"It's unsettling. This neighborhood, everybody keeps to themselves and mind your own business, but day-to-day life, you don't think something like that is that close to you," said neighbor Jessica Munot.

In an arrest affidavit, Pursglove admitted he regularly punched the walls in the bedroom in anger. Police say he was unable to provide detailed explanations on why the child was bruised. The report also states that the boy's mother saw her boyfriend disciplining Jayce, but when she tried to stop it, Pursglove turned on her.

Investigators say, despite Jacyce's extensive injuries, his mother never got him medical help.

"It's disturbing especially with how many resources there are out there now," Munot said.

According to the M.E., over a period of two to three days, Pursglove watched the toddler suffer.  They say, by doing so, he tortured the child, because he was unable to talk or eat and kept throwing up.
