Deputies: Man shot after argument over tattoo

Volusia County deputies found Daniel Madsen bleeding on the ground.

A neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, said she heard the shots.

“There was four gunshots and about two minutes later someone was walking down the street screaming help!”

Deputies say it was an argument over tattoos.

Madsen does tattoos and was hanging out in Daytona Beach Friday night.

Deputies say Madsen was riding his bicycle on the street when a car pulled up next to him and the driver said Madsen owed him a tattoo.

Madsen got into the car and apparently they had an argument there.

When he got out of the car and started walking away, that's when the driver shot him.

“He said 'I got one in the arm, one in the leg,’” the neighbor said. “He was walking, holding his arm. He was limping. He lay on the ground and the ambulance pulled up and they started taking care of him.”

The neighbor said she's never seen anything like that before in their neighborhood.

“Yeah, it was scary because my kids are here,” she said, “I mean you see stuff, but nobody gets shot over here.”

Deputies say Madsen went to Halifax Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

They say this is still an active investigation.
