Demings touches on vision for Orange County

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings says he's ready to be Orange County Mayor. With four new faces on the Board of County Commissioners, he says it will be a fresh new start.

"Today I had a meeting with the County Administrator and County Attorney," says Demings.

He says he's already in the process of making changes in Orange County, as he gets ready to be mayor.

"I've heard an awful lot from developers and builders about the processes of doing business with Orange County is not customer friendly. I want to make certain all of our services are customer friendly."

He says Orange County is growing rapidly, but plans to develop responsibly.

"We have an opportunity to balance this tremendous growth with protecting the environment at the same time."

Demings hopes to attract other industries to the area.

"We will work with venture capitalists to invest in businesses here."

And with more jobs, he hopes to create better wages and affordable housing. He says mental health needs to be dealt with too.

"This community has a deficit of mental health treatment so that's something we're going to continue to work on with our state and Federal partners. to bring dollars here for mental health treatment."

He takes office on December 4.

"I'll put the people over the politics."
