8 sea turtles rescued by Florida Aquarium

Eight turtles have arrived at The Florida Aquarium’s new $4.1 million Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Center in Apollo Beach.

The turtles, which included seven green and one loggerhead, arrived from Volusia County.  The turtles are all in stable condition.  The seven green turtles were all cold stunned and recently rescued on the state’s east coast.

"We've been planning for this for months," explained Ari Fustukjian, a veterinarian for the aquarium. "Not just me, but my whole team here has been working on getting us turtle-ready, and so we were able to do everything we needed to do to...put them away for bed for the night, in relatively short order."

These are the first turtles to be cared for at the facility since it opened last month.
