LONGWOOD, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Some wounded veterans are helping local firefighters in Longwood, in honor of September 11th.
Veterans from an organization called the Mission Continues are building a canopy for them at Station 17 so the rescuers have a place to relax when they're on call. They say there's not much room inside so they wanted to give them a space they could enjoy.
They also repaired their picnic table and installed a swing for them too.
"They give so much back to our community. They don't want things but we need to make sure we're thinking of them everyday," Tianna Hale of The Mission Continues says. "They're putting their life on the line here in our community. They do it selflessly."
On Saturday, they plan to paint a memorial in memory of a fallen firefighter. They'll help landscape at a different fire station.
