Couple arrested after toddler is shot in hand

A Sanford couple has been arrested after authorities say a child who in their car was injured by gunfire.

Sanford police officiers were called to Central Florida Regional Hospital on Tuesday where they discovered a toddler had been shot in the right hand.
The child was brought to the hospital by Devolia Sims, 22, and Aaron Davis, 26.

Sims told officers that she did not witness the shooting, but heard a shot and then saw the toddler had been injured.  During a lengthy interview with Sims, her story changed several times, authorities say.   Investigators said she refused to disclose the owner of the gun or what happened to the weapon after it was fired.  Davis refused to provide a statement.

When officers visited the location where the shooting allegedly occurred, they said they discovered drug paraphernalia and ammunition on the floor that could be easily accessible to a child.  Sims and Davis each face a charge of child neglect, and the Department of Children and Families is investigating.  Authorities are not releasing details about the relationship between the suspects or their connection to the child.
