Bear spotted on UCF campus

A large bear has been spotted on the University of Florida campus near Knights Plaza, authorities say.

The UCF Police Department sent out a notice on Thursday, warning people not to approach or surprise a bear, and not to feed or intentionally attract them.

"Bears are typically quiet and shy, but they are wild animals. It is important to remain alert of your surroundings and to be aware of how to react should you see a bear," read an alert by UCFPD.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says If you encounter a bear at close range, remain standing upright, back up slowly and speak to the bear in a calm, assertive voice.
