1 dead, 3 injured in Cocoa shooting

A 19-year-old man has died following a shooting in Cocoa late Wednesday.  Tyree Dawkins was pronounced deceased at the hospital.  Detectives believe he was part of a planned armed robbery that ended in an exchange of gunfire.  Four suspects are in custody facing charges in connection with the homicide.

The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. at 900 Friday Road, near the Affordable Living Center.  When officers arrived they located multiple victims.  Dawkins was found in a wooded area across the street from the shooting scene.

Less than one mile down the road two other victims were located in a vehicle.  Two others were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds and are currently recovering.  The identities of these individuals are being withheld as part of the ongoing criminal investigation.  A third person, identified as Derrick Adderly II, 29, suffered a superficial gunshot wound.  He was taken into custody at the scene and is facing charges in connection with the incident.

Detectives learned Dawkins was involved with three others in a plot to rob Adderly of drugs and money.  According to police, an individual who was with Dawkins to carry out the robbery, identified as Delvonte Rosier, 20, began shooting and there was an exchange of gunfire.

Rosier faces charges including attempted armed robbery, second-degree felony murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and violation of probation in reference to prior drug charges. Hakeem Battle, 17, and Jared Brian Harding, 18, are charged with attempted armed robbery, and second-degree felony murder.  Adderly is charged with attempted sale of cannabis.

The individuals with Dawkins included Rosier, Battle and Harding.  The two individuals currently in the hospital were with Adderly during the attempted drug deal, police say.
