NASA to announce that they will use robots to build structures on Mars

- On Tuesday, November 7 at 10 a.m. CST, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will make a significant announcement about using robots to build structures on Mars during remarks to a construction technology conference that will be livestreamed here.

A NASA official will announce the launch of a new nationwide competition to identify firms that can use technology and robots to remotely construct astronaut facilities on the planet Mars.

Tony Kim, the project manager for NASA, will make the announcement during the fall meeting of the BIM Forum, a meeting to help the construction industry better use Building Information Modeling technology and techniques.

Peter Carrato, a Fellow with Bechtel Corporation and member of NASA's Centennial Challenge Committee, will detail how the new NASA competition will require firms to follow what's known as Levels of Development that were established by the members of the BIM Forum, a group first created by the Associated General Contractors of America.
