Lake disappears in Florida community

Like a bad magic trick, an entire man-made pond disappeared from a Florida community over the weekend.

The Sandalwood pond in Stone Creek community of Ocala sits along the 7th hole of the neighborhood golf course.  On Saturday, residents noticed the lake’s water levels going down. By Sunday, the pond was gone and only the pond bed was visible.

Residents say they saw holes in the pond bed. The developer, Pulte Homes, told residents by email that engineers are working on determining what happened and are working to restore the pond. The complete process of filling the holes and refilling the pond could take a month or more.

Residents say this is the third large body of water in their community to mysteriously drain.
