SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - There's a big push to get guns off the streets of Central Florida and now you can turn your weapons in with no questions asked.
The Sanford Police Department and Lake Mary Police Department were set up in Seminole County on Tuesday morning to collect any unwanted weapons. And it's a simple process where you just stay in your car and officers will retrieve the weapon right form your vehicle. In return, you get a $50 gift card per weapon.
Police are hoping to surpass last year's count, which was near 36 firearms, including one that was stolen. But again, no questions are asked. That firearm was returned to its actual owner.
So far we have had 15 guns turned in to the #Sanford location at the #Kicks4Guns event. The latest was this black powder handgun. #NoQuestionsAsked @CrimelineFL @CityofLakeMary @RealRadio1041 pic.twitter.com/YVp5KjHEJA— Sanford Police (@SanfordPolice) October 16, 2018
Both police departments will be set up until 7 p.m. on Tuesday to collect more firearms. There are about 12 locations participating.
